Five WooCommerce Setup Mistakes That Cost Sales

Most struggling WooCommerce stores are not missing traffic. They are losing the visitors they already have at predictable points.
1. A category structure nobody can browse
Categories should reflect how customers describe what they want, not how your supplier organises a spreadsheet. If a shopper cannot reach a relevant product in two clicks, the structure needs work before anything else.
2. Product pages that load slowly
Product images are usually the heaviest assets on a store. Serve them at display size in a modern format, and keep review or wishlist add-ons off pages that do not use them.
3. Surprise costs at checkout
Shipping cost revealed on the final step is one of the most reliable ways to lose a sale. State shipping rules on the product page and in the cart, even if the answer is a flat rate.
4. A checkout with too many steps
Remove fields you do not use, allow guest checkout, and make sure the mobile keyboard matches each field type. Small friction compounds at the exact moment the customer is deciding.
- — Drop optional address fields you never read.
- — Enable guest checkout with an optional account after purchase.
- — Show payment options early so shoppers know their method is accepted.
5. No conversion tracking
Without purchase and add-to-cart events wired into analytics, every marketing decision is guesswork. Set tracking up before you spend on ads, not after the first disappointing month.
